I saw the webinar the article is referring to. One thing discussed in it is that companies need to invest in the C++ training of their developers, which I think is absolutely necessary. But also, I feel many companies have very high standards of entry for their C++ developers. Maybe I am thinking too highly of myself, but I often find it hard to crack some of these interviews. The ones I do crack, I think it is down to luck that I was asked questions that I knew off the top of my head, or that they were willing to give a pass on what I claimed I did not know. Most of the interviews though I get passed for not knowing enough. The thing is that C++ has gotten very complicated over the years and it is hard to keep up with everything (see Sean Parent’s recent presentation at CPP North).
